FSMQ and Key skills workshop - Liz Rayner

We started this session with Liz talking about the 3 foundation units Managing Money, Making Sense of Data and Working in 2 and 3 Dimensions. We then in twos or threes worked on various activities; these were hexagonal jigsaws about managing money and the area and the circumference of a circle; card matching a diagram with the answer and the reason why; identifying documents for opening up a bank account and a true, false and uncertain problem. Having spent time doing the activities we had to report back what we had done and how it had gone; we also discussed how they could be adapted.

Liz then gave us some suggestions as to which units were relevant for the students’ main subject area and useful web pages where we could obtain resources and ideas. I thought that the session was very useful and came away with some new ideas of how to make key skills more interesting.
